What is a Triple Offset Butterfly Valve?
The triple-offset butterfly valve features three distinct offsets that work together to eliminate friction between the disc and seat. The first and second offsets move the shaft away from the centerline of the bore and the centerline of the disc/seat sealing surfaces respectively. This angular position of the disc about the seats prevents seat damage and preserves the integrity of the valve seal. It also minimizes the chances of the valve sticking to the seats, thereby, decreasing operating torque.
The third and final offset is designed in the axis of the seat cone angle. This enables the valve to avoid contact between the seat and the disc during opening-closing cycles, which prevents them from rubbing each other. This non-rubbing feature results in a much longer lifetime for the seat and seal of the valve, enabling it to handle quicker stroke times and a higher number of cycles.
